Looking at vintage goods on Etsy

I was perusing the Vintage finds on Etsy. People always seem to find such nice things so I thought I'd have a gander. I don't even particularly like red, but it seems that every gem that I came across was red themed today. Here's some cute stuff.

A Scottie dog Bakelite pin, circan 1940's from greatoldstuff. Look at the dawg's funny litte face! I love Bakelite in all shapes and forms... well, almost all.

It come with plates, cups, and some utensils too! How perfect is that?

Plastic "beaded" purse from readyfreddyvintage. I have a thing for these odd purses. They are not actually beaded but it looks like the plastic knobs are fused to the fabric.

Cute strawberry milk glass sugar dish from grovelanestudio. I've never seen one of these before! It is adorable and looks to be in perfect condition! I'd rather use it as a candy dish than a sugar bowl though.

Here's a RED MoonRox item that is not vintage but I'm putting here just for kicks! It's the Rox Necklace on Ultrasuede. Go HERE for more info or to buy it.

Ok, I'm going to stop poking around Etsy and get back to work now! Hope everyone is having a nice Monday.

Lovely weekend

Spent Saturday garage sale-ing in J. and T's 'hood, then shopping the high end shops in the Bloor/Yorkville area with the Sis and C. 'Twas a delightful contrast in the hi and lo all packed within a few hours! Made a few purchases... but only at the garage sales! Along the way, we scoped out the windows at Holt Renfrew. Here is a snap shot of Anita Clarke's window. Congrats to Anita of the well-followed blog I Want, I Got! She was one of the six selected fashion bloggers from around the world to be invited to participate in a national series of window displays at Holt's stores.

Saturday evening was spent having a superb BBQ on A.'s roof top patio. It was a perfect evening to be outdoors loading up on good eats and sangria. Here are some more experimental photos. This time they were taken from the A.'s roof... not that you can tell! Sorry to throw so many of these at you. I just like how they are almost painterly. Also, thanks to A. for hosting the gang of us.

On Sunday I meant to check out the Pride Parade, but I am sad to say I was kept away by the rain. Ended up scooting around downtown and then wrapping up the evening with Sunday dins at my Sister's place. Check out the view at sunset!

Easily distracted

I have been known to be easily distracted. On a nice day like today, all I want to do it be outside in the warmth of the sun. Today, I have been easily distracted from work and sun by surfing the internet. Since getting into this whole blogging thing, I have come across a few nice blogs that I could spend hours on... going back deep into the archives. A nice one that has inspired me to work on the packaging of my work has been The Dieline, the self described world's #1 packaging design website. Here are some samples.
A really pretty Albert Menes sardine box,
Some juicy designs for Kleenex,
Sliced Bread notebooks,
Summer Coca-Cola cans,
and lots of witty stuff from BrooklynFare.com.

I especially like the coffee cups from Brooklyn Fare and I have always hoarded Coke paraphernalia so I have a definite sore spot for that stuff.

Happy Friday and enjoy the weekend!

Pearls in June

This necklace is classic and chic at the same time as it is a little tough and whimsical. Large vintage faux pearls hang with tiny elephants suspended from brass loops. If you prefer, I also have seahorses, swans, scottie dogs and two versions of owls. To find out more or to buy, send an email to info[at]moonrox[dot]ca or click over to the MoonRox Etsy Shop HERE.

Blue Jays loss

Went to the Blue Jays game last night. We sat up in the nosebleeds but it's a perfect bird's eye view of the field. And it costs less than going to catch a flick at the theatre. Unfortunately, it looks like baseball ain't all that popular in this town anymore. I remember going in the 90's in the Jays' heyday and the place would be exploding at the seams. The attendance last night was pretty slim, and the Jays lost 7-5 to the Reds, but it was great to be there in the Dome with the roof open with some good friends.

A couple of Burger Kings.

Dreary day indoors

I have been hiding out from the rain and humidity inside today. I've been puttering around organizing my studio space which is really a big task. I just packed up a good sized order of mostly custom items. It always surprises me how long it takes to tag and pack up the jewellery.

On another topic, how about that garbage strike? I met a man yesterday that was a city planner/architect but he was at the garbage dump all day dealing with strike issues. He said he would guess that the civil service strike would last 3 weeks. That is a long time with garbage cooking in the heat on the streets. I can still remember the odour of the last strike. I wonder how the Pride parade clean-up will go on the weekend. Usually, I marvel at how quickly the mess is swept away. And... I was really wanting to ferry over to Centre Island. Darn strike! Anyhow, here are some pics from a sunnier day two days ago at HTO Park.

And more!

Here are a couple more new headbands I've been working on. Little bit fancy, huh? These are so much fun to make as each one is unique. Want one to parade around for yourself? Go to the MoonRox Etsy Shop or send me a note at info[at]moonrox[dot]ca.

New head band

This is a new piece I created a couple days ago. I really like how bright and Summery this head band is! I made a few others, so there will be more to come. I am just sorting out the photos, but this one is in the MoonRox Etsy Shop now. See it HERE.

More Suds!

Yesterday I had a nice picnic lunch in the park with the boss lady at Sultry Suds. It has been way too many months since we had lunched. We chatted business and enjoyed some delicious rotis from Ghandi Roti... mmmmm....
I re-stocked on my fave Sultry Suds soaps. These all natural wonders lather up amazingly and make for an extremely pleasant bathing experience... and I am not just saying that because I know the maker. The products really are lovely! Below are: Frisky Peppermint, Luscious Lavender and Sultry Citrus. Check out the Sultry Suds site and online ordering HERE!

Lights in the sky

I was sitting on my balcony enjoying a lovely warm evening with a nice glass of wine last night so I tried to document the moment with my little point and shoot digi-cam. Didn't work out at all so I tried something I had seen on another blog somewhere. Someone spelled out letters then words by taking photos of light with a slow shutter speed. I wasn't able to get anything near that with the camera I have. I really want a digital SLR so I can take nicer photos! These are the results of my experiment. I do like how they turned out graphically! Spot the CN Tower!

Sum-sum-summertime!

Happy Father's Day and happy first day of Summer! Here's me and my Dad in the late 70's... just a wee tot! Where do I find a hat like that these days?

Today is the solstice and the longest day of the year, and I am looking forward to many lovely long sunny Summer days! Welcome Sum-sum-summertime!

What a great tote!

This Summer Tote by Brooklyn-based layerxlayer on Etsy is just what I need! Well, that is if one could slightly alter the meaning of "need." It's a great size, looks very sturdy and has the roped area on the front to contain the market bag that it comes with! How cool is that?

Images from CoCo and TDK show at the Gladstone Hotel

Six fantastic pieces of art by CoCo, a.k.a COrey Christopher COmely.

A few of Todd de Koker's works on exhibit.
It was a good evening! Lots of people turned out on Thursday night to support the two talented artists and the work looked really great in the space. Go by the Art Bar at the Gladstone Hotel to check them out for yourselves! The show will be up until June 30th.

For more on CoCo, visit his site HERE.
For deets on the Gladstone, go HERE.

Now, here are some more random shots. I looked up today to see the sky looking extra expansive, so I took a few pictures.
That's all for now. Have a fab weekend!
